HCT Hosts Inaugural Beach Handball Tournament

Woodbine Beach in Toronto was treated to a one-of-a-kind event.

On Saturday, August 5 we hosted for first ever Toronto Summer Cup beach handball tournament on the stunning shores of Lake Ontario. It was a beautiful day, with 40+ players competing and 100+ spectators witnessing the sport for the first time.

The tournament had four teams compete including HCT Blue, Black, and Orange as well as the Couche-Tards from Quebec. In the round robin it was close matches throughout with HCT Blue earning the top spot with 2 wins and 1 loss. HCT Black was in second with 2 wins and 1 loss, Couche-Tards were in third with 1 win and 2 losses, and HCT Orange were in forth with 1 win and 2 losses.

In the first semi-final match HCT Blue won the first half, but HCT Orange came back and got the second half victory on a golden goal. In the shootout, it was close with HCT Blue narrowly winning 5-3. In the other semi-final it also went to a shootout with HCT Black and Couche-tards each earning a game victory. In the shootout Couche-Tards showed their athleticism winning the shootout and booking their spot in the final.

HCT Black and Orange competed in the third-place game with HCT Orange earning the bronze medal.

In the final match, HCT Blue put on a clinic executing on both ends of the court. They won the match 2-0 over the Couche-tards to claim the inaugural Summer Cup Championship!
